Types of Light Bulbs and Fittings
Many of our lights include bulbs and you may be concerned about replacing them easily in the future. Rest assured all our light fittings we sell use bulbs that can easily be found on the high street. They are also future proof, able to take new modern low energy bulbs.
There are four types of bulbs that cover 99% of the light fittings we offer. These are:
Incandescent Light Bulbs
Incandescent light bulbs are manufactured in a wide range of sizes and light output (wattage) below are just a few standard fittings that are compatible with our product range, (BC/B22, SBC/B15, ES/E27, SES/E14,GLS and candle, but the overall dimensions can differ slightly due to the width and height of the tubes. They have an average life of 1000 hours and they are the most common bulbs that are found in a average household, they have two main coatings a clear glass bulb ideal for Crystal chandeliers to reflect the sparkle effect the crystals and a frosted pearl white which are ideal for lights with a shade and produce a softer light. Its is advised to check for the right fitments before purchasing.

Fitting energy saving bulbs into your existing fitting will save you money on your electricity bills and ensure your light bulbs will last you longer.
Halogen Light Bulbs:
Most commonly seen in spotlights or downlights, ideal for directional lighting for Kitchen, Bathroom, Art Galleries and places where focus lighting is required to accentuate an area. Halogen light bulbs in general are smaller in size but don't let that put you off as they produce light that is often known to be like sunlight. Halogens bulbs produce a lot of heat so they can only be suitable for light fittings that can withstand extreme heat intensities and made from heat conducing materials, if this is a concern for you then there are also Low energy and LED versions for most halogen bulb fittings, which of course will save you energy and produce less heat from the bulbs.

Brightness is actually measured in Lumen's and packaging has been changing to show this, but for those of us used to watts that’s not always helpful.
Here is a quick comparison chart
Low Energy (CFL)
They are available in mains and low voltage types.
These lamps operate on 12v which means a transformer is fitted separately to the light fitting or integrated into the light to reduce the input voltage from 240v to 12v. The benefits of the lower voltage fittings are that the safer voltage enables manufacturers to design interesting and slim light fittings without the need to protect against dangerous higher voltages. Do not cover low voltage lighting with insulation as they reflect heat backwards, always use special fire hoods or leave enough cavity gap so heat can be dispersed efficiently.
This type of lamp offers the light colour advantage of halogen without the need to house a transformer. The reflector type bulbs are known as GU10 or GZ10 and the small envelope non-reflector halogens are known as G9.
